I've seen a lot in the mainstream press about Pakistan, the dangers of extremism and political repression. If I just read the usual suspects I never would have found out about the flour shortages, and the role they may play in destabalizing Pakistan.

Interesting... I've been reading a lot about Pakistan as well. Last week's Economist touted Pakistan as the most dangerous place in the world on its cover. Of course, I always knew Pakistan certainly wasn't a rich country, but this is the first I've heard of the food shortages. A country that can't eat certainly won't be stable...
This does tend to present a problem...
I think that getting the basic human needs of food, shelter, clothing ect. would certainly go a long way in stabilizing any country...perhaps that's just to simple for the airheads in Washington to contemplate.
